Mat has more than 30 years of experience in the tax and public accounting industry beginning with Arthur Andersen in Atlanta, Georgia in their Tax Consulting Group. In this role, Mat helped individuals and businesses of all sizes reduce their tax liabilities. Realizing a need for quality tax and business planning, Mat founded The Hultquist Firm in 2003 with a mission to go beyond the standard tax return and financial statement preparation services offered by most CPA firms. His passion and experience in this industry has helped numerous businesses and their owners to save thousands of dollars, giving them the opportunity to take their businesses to new levels.
Mat is married with 4 children and lives in Greer, South Carolina. In his spare time, Mat enjoys working on his farm and spending time with his family. Mat also has a passion for learning and reads every chance he gets.
Caryn’s passion focuses on providing tax planning and compliance services to high-net-worth individuals and family groups as well as flow-through entities. She has more than 35 years of experience working with individuals and businesses to mitigate their taxes. She is also a Certified Exit Planning Advisor, assisting clients through the process of growing their businesses as they prepare for succession planning and exit strategies.
Caryn is married with 7 children, grandchildren and lives in Mauldin. In her spare time, Caryn enjoys golfing, cooking and spending time with her family.

Julie began her career in the food and beverage industry, where she spent 10 years developing strong customer service and operational skills. She then transitioned into accounting in the private sector as an Accounts Payable Specialist before moving to public accounting as a Staff Accountant, gaining experience in both tax and audit. She enjoys working directly with clients, combining her accounting expertise with her customer service background to provide personalized solutions.
Outside of work, Julie enjoys cooking, reading, and home renovation projects, stays active with CrossFit, Pilates, and golf, and indulges in stand-up comedy and dessert, and occasionally goes ghost hunting (though she’s yet to catch anything). Julie is a devoted pet parent to five dogs, two cats, and a chicken, and prioritizes spending time with friends and family.
Lisa has spent 10+ years of her career in Public Accounting, working with a variety of clients. She has extensive experience working with small closely held entities and high net worth clients. Construction is one of her specialties, as she has personal experience working in construction with her family – both in and out of the front office! After 5 years teaching at Clemson University, she decided to rejoin us in the world of Public Accounting, but is still keeping one foot in the teaching world – you might be able to catch one of her lectures at local universities in Georgia and South Carolina!
Outside of the office, Lisa is a world traveler – she’s traveled all through Europe (much easier to do when you live there!) and South America. She also spends time exercising and learning more about wrestling than she would prefer to know from her son.
Accounting Advisor
Mallory has 2.5 years of experience in Bookkeeping / Accounting and is excited to dive into THF’s clientele!
Outside of work, Mallory enjoys being in nature, spending time with God, and staying active, especially if it involves a nice view!

Rachel has been with The Hultquist Firm since May 2015. Over the years, she has gained hands-on experience across nearly every industry we serve, while also developing a broad and deep understanding of accounting that enhance the value we provide to our clients. Her warm and positive demeanor not only strengthen client relationships but also fosters a collaborative and motivated environment within her team. During her time at THF, she has developed strong leadership skills that have prepared her to effectively run and manage the Accounting Department. Rachel is looking forward to continuing to grow the Accounting Department and positively impacting our clients’ businesses.
Support Administrator
Shannon grew up around smaller accounting firms and assisting her aunt with her own firm during her summers in Kentucky. She has extensive experience in customer service, then took an 8 year break to serve our community as an EMT. During Summer 2025, she decided it was time for a change and to come back to her roots, and we’re so glad she did!
Shannon enjoys cooking and baking for a crowd, spending time with her wife, their children, and two rescue pups, curling up with a good book, and being in nature as much as possible.
Tammy lives in Atlanta, Georgia, and has 20+ years of experience in accounting. For the last ten years, she has enjoyed working with clients and fellow team members on tax for businesses and individuals.
She enjoys traveling with her family throughout the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
